Full Moon in Libra

April’s Full Moon is in the harmonious Air sign of Libra.

My sister-in-law, whose Sun and Jupiter are in Libra, is such a perfect example of this sign’s energy to me. She dresses elegantly, her home is expertly curated and crafted, filled with beautiful things, and she loves doing fun things with others. She’s also a great person to get advice from because she has a knack for considering all sides of an issue, talking you through your feelings and helping you consider options without making you feel like you’re being preached to.

Symbolized by the scales, Libra seeks balance, harmony, and justice in all things. Lest this make you think Libra is a practical as Virgo, consider also that Libra’s ruling planet is Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and art. Libra wants harmony out of a desire for peace not control. Libra wants everyone to love and be loved, not for everyone and everything to fall in line and do what they’re told. Libra seeks harmony in all aspects of life and self - mind, body, and soul. As the sign of partnership, Libra also knows that we must be in harmony with others to truly be in harmony with ourselves, and vice versa.

This Full Moon is calling you to bring balance and harmony to anything in your life that currently feels out of alignment, especially relationships - with yourself and others. In the 2022 Many Moons Lunar Planner from Moon Studio, nonbinary sexuality doula Ev’Yan Whitney wrote about “the binary,” describing it as a “built-in, inflexible, and often oppressive system that has us looking at and categorizing things through a fixed lens of black or white, dark vs. light, this or that.” During the Libra Full Moon, Ev’Yan challenged readers to “explore, love, and accept the both/and of yourself.” In other words, get comfortable living in duality and contradiction. This comes pretty natural to me as a multi-passionate, multi-planet Gemini, but most of us can feel really uncomfortable when we don’t feel like labels apply to us, or we feel we’re one thing one day and another thing the next. It’s okay to change and be flexible. Libra’s scales aren’t about choosing one side over the other - that would put them in imbalance. The scales are about accepting the “light” and “dark” parts of ourselves, embracing them, and bringing them together to do our work. Chiron currently in the opposite sign of Aries reinforces this message of loving ourselves, facing and healing our wounds so that we may use those facets of ourselves to grow, to lead, and to help others heal themselves.

Libra Full Moon Affirmations:

  • I give and receive love in equal measure.

  • I create harmony in my life by expressing myself honestly, creating art that aligns with my soul, and surrounding myself with beautiful things that make my heart joyful.

  • I embrace duality and contradiction because I am always changing and growing.

Libra Full Moon Self-Care Rituals:

  • Do a chakra balancing meditation. This 8-minute one from Kiran Chugani on Insight Timer is my favorite.

  • Journal about what currently feels out of balance in your life. Use this insight to find your own self-care rituals to fix the imbalance.

  • Witness art. Go to an art museum, concert, or stage performance.

  • Make art. Draw, color, make music, paint - whatever art or craft your soul is feeling called to create.

  • Be present in nature. Though Libra is an Air sign, it asks us to be present and grounded in our bodies. Walk barefoot on the earth or take a walk in the woods and notice how Mother Earth is coming back to life, blooming into being all around you.

  • Forgive someone. Even if its in your own mind. Accept that person’s limitations and release whatever negative influence they’ve been having on your psyche.

  • See which house Libra falls in within your birth chart, and create your own self-care rituals around this aspect of your life.*

*Take a look at where Libra falls in your birth chart. If you don’t have one, you can create a free one at astro.com or astro-charts.com. It’s best if you know your exact birth time and location to create the most accurate chart based on your rising (aka “ascendant”) sign - the sign that was on the horizon at the moment of your birth - which changes every two hours. A birth chart based on your rising sign is much more specific to you, and will show you which planets and signs are in which houses. Look to which house Libra is in and try to show some love to those aspects of your life. For example, as a Scorpio Rising, Libra rules over my 12th house, the House of Secrets of the Soul, Inner Work, Past Lives, and Things to Heal, so doing a past life meditation and healing could be a great self-care ritual for me.

Take care, moonbeams ~
