Project Description
There is no shortage of love for squirrels on the Wesleyan University campus. Some might say Wes loves squirrels more than its own mascot, the noble cardinal. That gave me the idea for an epic April Fool’s prank: declaring the squirrel as the University’s new mascot. I collaborated with our internal video team and news staff to create video, social, and newsletter content to support this prank — even getting President Michael S. Roth, Associate Athletic Director Kate Mullen, and animal expert faculty member Kari Weil to play along. The campaign received lots of engagement on social media, but the true measure of success came when I overheard students yell “we want the squirrel mascot!” at the Cardinal a few weeks later. #WesSquirrels
