Full Moon in Virgo
This is the last Full Moon of the astrological year (which begins when the Sun moves out of Pisces and into Aries), and it’s in the earthy sign of Virgo.
I will be honest - it’s hard for me to be unbiased about Virgo because all of the people who have traumatized me the most are Virgo-Suns. Odds are, if you have any Virgos in your life, you can point to a time or two where their criticism went a little too far. Virgos strive for perfection in every aspect of their life. The positive aspect of this unending quest for perfectionism is that Virgos can be counted on to be highly organized problem solvers, phenomenal at planning and at understanding what went wrong and never giving up until they’ve found a solution. If you’re trying to work through a problem that requires logic and cool headedness, call a Virgo. They’re also great at keeping to a schedule and getting shit done. They don’t find monotony in the day-to-day grind or having a routine - they find comfort in this. To the point where it can be uncomfortable for them to be spontaneous.
The not-so-great aspect of Virgo perfectionism is the constant nit-picking, unsolicited advice, and criticism. If they think you could be doing something better, they will let you know. However, Virgos are generally not willing to listen to others critiquing them, though they do tend to be incredibly and internally critical of themselves. Virgos may come off as cold and uncaring because they simply do not have time for emotions. Expressing emotions does not seem productive to them - they want practical solutions to fix the problem. Even if they’re not the most empathic people in your life, they do love to put their analytical minds to work and be of service to others. So I’ll say it again: If you’re trying to work through a problem that requires logic and cool headedness, call a Virgo. If you’re trying to work through an emotional issue and you want someone to validate your feelings, call a Pisces ‘cause you’re not getting that from a Virgo. Think of Virgo as your lawyer or accountant and Pisces as your therapist.
And if Luna Lovegood is pure Pisces energy, Hermione Granger is Virgo energy. Perhaps the most Virgo thing Hermione says is in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, “I'm highly logical which allows me to look past extraneous detail and perceive clearly that which others overlook.” Virgos are intelligent, analytical, and like cold hard facts. They aren’t likely to accept a story or argument at face value - they want to do their own research. Plus, they’ll remember those facts forever. I mean, wouldn’t you want Hermione as a trivia partner?!
Virgo is represented by “the virgin,” and I want to clarify what that word truly means. To the ancient Greeks, virgin (“virgo”) was used to describe a woman who was independent, “not attached to a man,” who was “one-in-herself.” Goddesses like Diana (Roman), Ishtar (Assyrian-Babylonian), and Isis (Egyptian) were called “virgins” not because they were sexually inexperienced, but because their sexuality was their own and not beholden to any man. As such, the sign of Virgo asks us to have dominion over our own body and sexuality.
Virgo Full Moon Affirmations:
I am intelligent and kind, and I use my skills to help others.
I let go of the things I cannot control, and surrender them to the Universe.
My body is my temple, and I alone have dominion over my sexuality.
Virgo Full Moon Self-Care Rituals:
Get organized! It makes a lot of sense that the Virgo Full and New Moons happen around equinoxes, a time of getting things in balance. Virgo energy is all about getting rid of junk and organizing what you have. Think of areas in your life where you could use a little organization - a room in your house, your finances, etc - and spend some time tackling it.
Establish a routine. Do you have a morning or evening routine? If not, this is a great time to start one because Virgo is all about routine and daily activities. If you’re new to morning/evening routines, don’t try to do too much. Start with just a 5-minute meditation every morning or 10-minute relaxing stretch before bed.
Move your body. Earthy Virgo might like to use her brain, but she’s also a very embodied sign. Find ways to pull your energy down into your body, grounding in and being physically present and do some form of physical movement - go for a walk or run, dance, stretch, move.
Get sexy. By yourself or with a partner!
See which house Virgo falls in within your birth chart, and create your own self-care rituals around this aspect of your life.
*Take a look at where Virgo falls in your birth chart. If you don’t have one, you can create a free one at astro.com or astro-charts.com. It’s best if you know your exact birth time and location to create the most accurate chart based on your rising (aka “ascendant”) sign - the sign that was on the horizon at the moment of your birth - which changes every two hours. A birth chart based on your rising sign is much more specific to you, and will show you which planets and signs are in which houses. Look to which house Virgo is in and try to show some love to those aspects of your life. For example, as a Scorpio Rising, Virgo rules over my 11th house, the House of Hopes, Friendships, Long-Term Vision, and Communities. Some good self-care rituals for me would be long-term goal setting and planning, visiting with friends, helping my community in some way.
Take care, moonbeams ~
